Dasean Matthews, 23, was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 3 by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on a first-degree murder charge in the death of 2-year-old Mars Jones, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Cops were called around 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 to the unit block of Atlantic Street on a report of an unconscious child, they said.
Responding officers found an unresponsive 2-year-old boy, who was rushed to an area hospital by EMS workers.
However, due to the severity of Jones' injuries, he died five days later on Tuesday, Oct. 18, authorities said.
An autopsy on the child's body revealed that the cause of death was complications of inflicted trauma and the manner of death was ruled homicide.
